Is it possible to get the videos off of a video camera mini dvd onto your laptop?

so I have a Sony handycam that does not take videotapes, it takes non-rewritable video camera dvd's, and dvd's that you can re write on them, re write as in record on the same disk over and over again, no matter how many times, now what I am looking for is if it is possible to put one of these mini dvd's inside a laptop and checking what's on it. but I am afraid I will screw up my laptop completely if I do it, and the mini dvd I have is a non-rewritable so what I hear is that I am supposed to finalize the dvd and that made me think "what the heck, finalize... what is that", so I am asking for help because I am pretty confused about this...
